Who’s Your Father?

Some words carry more weight than others. “Father” is one of them.

When the Nicene Creed begins with “We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth…” it isn’t just giving God a title. It’s offering a relationship. A starting point. A way of seeing everything else.

And that word Almighty? It’s not just about might like we see in war stories or action movies. The mighty men of the Old Testament had epic stories—killing enemies by the hundreds, holding their ground alone in battle, tearing lions apart with bare hands. But God’s strength is different. His might brings life. He doesn’t just defeat enemies—He creates galaxies. He doesn’t just defend—He sustains, upholds, and renews.

God speaks, and stars are born. He breathes, and life begins.

He’s not limited by time like we are. Our lives play out moment by moment—but God sees every frame of the story all at once. The past, the present, the future—it’s all held in His view. He’s not scrambling or surprised. He’s present. Constant. Faithful.

Everyone believes something about God. Even if it’s buried under years of disappointment or tangled up in fear, there’s still something shaping our view of who’s in charge and whether we can trust Him. In Jesus, we’re given a clear picture of the Father. His story shows us what God is like—steadfast, compassionate, full of grace. The kind of Father who runs toward the broken, who rejoices when the lost come home, who carries both justice and mercy with complete integrity. That’s who we’re talking about when we say Father Almighty.

Think of your life as a film strip, frame by frame. We see one moment at a time, trying to make sense of the scene we’re in. But God sees the whole reel—the beginning, the middle, the turning points, the quiet parts, the unexpected plot twists. He holds the whole story. And not just the visible parts. The Creed reminds us that He’s the Maker of things visible and invisible. The world we see is only part of the picture. There’s a spiritual reality at play too—one that Scripture talks about often.

Paul writes in Ephesians that we’re in a real battle—not against each other, but against the forces that want to twist, distract, and divide. And when we forget that, it’s easy to start treating each other like the enemy.

We get hurt. We hold grudges. We get caught in offense. Sometimes, that’s what keeps us from trusting the Father. And we carry those wounds into how we view God. But God’s word reminds us to stay awake, to stand firm, to trust the One who equips us. We were never meant to navigate this alone.

Still, it’s not always easy to trust. Our view of God can get shaped by our experiences with earthly fathers. Maybe yours was absent or unpredictable. Maybe he was kind but didn’t know how to express it. Or maybe he tried and still left a gap. That ache is real. But God the Father isn’t a reflection of human failure. He’s not just the best version of our dads. He’s the original.

He is steady. He is good. He is present. He’s the kind of Father who lifts, restores, holds, and says, You are mine. That truth doesn’t ask you to forget what you’ve been through—it just invites you to trust there’s more to the story than what you’ve known.

So ask yourself: Who’s your Father?

Is He the One you trust?

The One you believe?

The One who has the final say in your life?

If you’re not sure, that’s okay too. The invitation stands. You don’t have to figure it all out before you come. You don’t have to clean yourself up first. He’s already made a way through Jesus—His Son, sent not just to teach or inspire, but to bring you back to the Father. That’s the heart of it all.

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty.

And He wants you to know Him.

Not just in theory.

For real.
